National Wear Red Day!

The most important aspect of National Wear Red Day is being informed about your heart health! We can help you determine your health numbers so you can take preventative measures against heart disease!

So, you keep hearing that today is National Wear Red Day…what’s it all about? Raising awareness! Heart disease causes 1 in 3 deaths among women each year. That’s about one woman every 80 seconds! A scary thought when you put it into perspective! The good news is, 80% of cardiac events can be prevented through education and lifestyle changes.

Studies show that healthy choices have resulted in 330 fewer women dying from heart disease per day! Here are a few lifestyle changes you can make to decrease your risk.

  • Quit smoking – it’s hard, but you don’t have to do it alone. Visit lung.org to learn your options.
  • Get your blood pressure under control – A “normal” number is less than 120 systolic and less than 80 diastolic
  • Lower your Cholesterol – Less than 200 mg/dL is a desirable level to work towards
  • Manage your blood sugar – Follow a balanced meal plan and talk to your doctor to figure out the best plan for you
  • Keep your weight in check– If you need to shed some pounds, put down the fork!
  • Be Active – it’s as simple as talking a 30 minute walk. Just take the first step!

How can you take preventative measures? Get informed about your health numbers! At Adirondack Health & Wellness, we can help with that! We will come to your office and give screenings to your employees in the following areas:

  • Total Cholesterol Screening
  • Blood Pressure Measurement
  • Lipid Panel – Glucose, total, HDL and LDL, and HDL ratio
  • Total Body Composition – body make-up percentage and BMI
  • A1c – test for Diabetes
  • Tuberculosis skin test (TB)
