In 2008, Congress designated the first week of June for observation of “National Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Week.” Congress did this with the intention of encouraging all states to establish organized programs which provide CPR & AED training to the public. Approximately 325,000 Americans suffer sudden cardiac arrest each year and more than 95 percent of them die before reaching the hospital. If CPR and defibrillation are not applied within 10 minutes after sudden cardiac arrest, there is virtually no chance of survival. However where defibrillation is provided within five to seven minutes, the survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest is as high as 49 percent. By participating in ADKHW CPR certification program, we can raise the public awareness regarding Sudden Cardiac Arrest and increase the chance of survival by having at least one person in each household trained and an employee for each shift and every department trained in CPR and the use of an AED.
